Focusing on the cover layer materials (as the Radon Barrier Materials), which could have the effect to restrain the radon from scattering into the air and the effect of the radiation shielding, we produced the radon barrier materials with crude bentonite on an experimental basis, using the rotary type comprehensive unit for grinding and mixing, through which we carried out the evaluation of the characteristics thereof.

We developed as a new technique to remove the influence of distance between radionuclides and detectors. We named the technique "the Facing Couple Method (FCM)". Partcality inspection which uses uranium source was parformed.Furthermore, the application possibility to a system was confirmed.

The dismantling activities, which consist of removal of the glove panel, dismantling of the interior equipment and dismantling of the GB body and made up about 45% of the dismantling of the GB in GBDF, could be performed by remote control.

Advanced Thermal Reactor Fugen Nuclear Power Station is planning to introduce 'spent resin volume reduction and stabilization processing device' and 'laundry drain filtering device' in radioactive waster treatment system. As for the former device, we demonstrated sufficient performance of this device by carrying out the confirmation test using real spent resin relating to the following points: performance of volume and weight reduction; change to inorganic material; detoxification; and retention and transfer of nuclide, etc. As for the latter device, we are studying two methods now. However, we confirmed that it is possible to apply the removal performance of radioactivity and Chemical Oxygen Demand to real machine by carrying out hot test.

Leaching behavior of lead from waste forms solidified using low-alkalinity cements was studied to reduce the leachability of lead from low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) forms. The use of low-alkalinity cements effectively decreased the concentrations of lead in the leachates and the only sample that passed the leaching test of the landfill of hazardous industrial wastes was the lead sulfide solidified using calcium sulpho-aluminate cement blended silica fume.
